STB’s Promotional DVD Wins Film Festival AwardMonday, 21 June 2010
The Seychelles Tourism Board (STB) has won a prize at the 46th International TourFilm Festival for its promotional DVD - The Seychelles Islands, Another World - featuring the country's sustainable tourism. Held in Lecce, Italy, from May 27 to 29, the festival started in 1962 as the National Tourist Film Festival in Venice, after which it moved to other Italian cities including Palermo (1971-72), Naples (1973), Lignano Sabbiodoro (1974), Como (1975) and Olbia (1975).
In 1983 it was integrated with the first International Tourist Film Festival in Montecatini Terme. Its founder and promoter is journalist Antonio Conte, who is the current president of the festival’s International Organism of Coordination and of the European Federation of the Tourist Press. This festival is internationally regarded as one of the most important of its kind. Its aim is to develop and promote cinema, television and audiovisual material with a strong focus on tourism and related subjects.
Around 300 films from 60 countries were entered for this year’s festival and, as usual, the jury was made up of tourism experts, film directors and journalists. The manager of the Seychelles Tourism Office in Italy, Monette Rose, was present to receive the award for her country and, as a special guest, the STB had the honour of hosting 100 guests to dinner on the promotional day.
The Grand Prix Italia prizes at the festival were won by Franco Zeffirelli from Italy with his 30-minute film Omaggio a Roma and Jozsef Safrany from Poland with Fry deryk 2010 – a 24-minute film. The main activities at the festival were film screenings, both
indoors and outdoors, as well as exhibitions, debates, conferences, book launches, presentations and tastings of products, including typical drinks.
